ARA-290, also known as cibinetide, is an 11-amino-acid peptide designed to retain EPO's tissue-repair and anti-inflammatory properties without stimulating red blood cell production. It has been investigated in human trials, primarily for sarcoidosis- and diabetes-related nerve symptoms, but development stalled after Phase 2.
| Dose | Frequency | Duration | Route | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sarcoidosis pilot (2012) | 2 mg | 3x/week | 4 weeks | IV |
| Type 2 diabetes neuropathy (2014) | 4 mg | Daily | 28 days | subQ |
| Phase 2b sarcoidosis (2017) | 1, 4, or 8 mg | Daily | 28 days | subQ |
| Diabetic macular edema (2020) | 4 mg | Daily | 12 weeks | subQ |
Cycle: About 4 weeks, matching trial blocks
Benefits and research observations: Most studies ran daily for 28 days, with measurable nerve-fiber regrowth and pain improvement seen within this period. In one diabetes trial, some benefits persisted through a 28-day follow-up after dosing.
